“It is in the small things we see it. …
if you have endured a great despair,
then you did it alone, …
your courage will still be shown in the little
ways,
each spring will be a sword you’ll sharpen,
those you love will live in a fever of love”
– Anne Sexton
I am a, mostly, self-taught artist and am currently in school for accounting (and I know those two things don’t complement each other very well, but they work for me). I love being able to see the creativity of the students here and how much they enjoy showing it to one another and the staff. I found myself here because I know many children don’t have a safe space to express themselves, feel what they need to, and live their lives the way they want to. I want to be somewhere where I can see that I am a potential safe space for those students to confide in, the good and the bad moments, to not be alone in their time of need. I love that this community has given me the resources to do this. We all make mistakes and need help from time to time; if I can be that help, then I feel I have fulfilled my responsibility to the youth around me.
