Welcome to Capital Innovations Academy’s STEM Page. CI is committed to excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math academic paths. Students at Capital Innovations Academy are constantly challenged to apply the Scientific Method not only in their science core classes, but also in Health, Math and their respective Science and Technology majors.
I am Mrs. Romais. I am a passionate Biologist and Environmental Scientist who loves teaching. My greatest joy is to see my students excited about science, applying what we learn in class to answer questions, make observations and develop hypotheses.
About Mrs. Romais:
I was born in Brazil, where my entire family still lives. From a young age, I have always been taught about the importance of a good and solid education. Teaching has always been a part of my DNA, and I feel very fortunate to be able to share what I know with my students. I feel that I have as much to learn from my students as I have to teach them. I am always happy to see students asking questions, engaged and excited about what I love.
2022-2023 Science Classes (per group):
C-Group: Life Sciences
I-Group: Animal Kingdom Classification II and Human Anatomy
A-Group: Physics II
Core Sciences at CI:
Each core science is taught yearly in rotation. This means that all students will be able to receive instruction in those subjects throughout their time at CI. As a rule, we use the NGSS California Standards as a basis when preparing our curriculum. However, as the school year gets underway, you will notice that we go in depth on all the topics we cover to allow for our students to have a full understanding of each concept discussed in class.

Class Format:
Science at CI is primarily a class of discovery. Students are encouraged to ask questions and propose ideas. I want each student to take charge of their learning process, and I want to facilitate scientific inquiry whenever possible.
Content is discussed in class during lectures that follow a college-lecture format. Students are expected to come prepared at the start of each class, take notes and complete all assignments proposed to the best of their abilities.
Supplies needed for class: notebook, pencil, pen, eraser.
Labs:
Each week, students will participate in a guided lab or hands-on activity that will help illustrate and cement the concepts discussed during class lectures. Lab days are informed at the start of the school year.
Supplies needed for lab: lab coat, goggles (as needed), proper clothing, hair tie (if you have long hair), notebook, pencil, eraser.
